An overview of the application of various structural systems in design practice. Applying their understanding of basic structural concepts, students learn to analyze the force and moment of typical structural elements such as column, beam, wall, and slab. Students conduct design exercises in the various systems, including wood, wall, steel, concrete, and shell structures. The course this semester seeks to assist students in participating in the 9th Annual Architectural Competition of Steel Structure Design, hosted by the Korean Steel Construction Institute, with emphasis on the integration of architectural design and structural engineering. The design topic for this year’s competition is “Observatory” During the course, students interpret the given brief, analyse architectural data and case studies, train in formal and structural design, and learn to present their ideas effectively.
