글로벌건축도시연합(Global Workshop for Architecture and Urbanism)은 2004년부터 기획, 운영하여 온 ‘아시아 건축도시연합(Asian Coalition for Architecture and Urbanism)’을 확장하여 전 세계의 협력 대학들과 협의, 공동 기획, 운영을 통해 도시와 건축의 현안을 조사하고, 해법을 제시하는 워크숍으로 진행된다. GWAU는 2022년부터 시작되었으며, ACAU의 성공적 경험을 바탕으로 글로벌 네트워크를 확장하고자 아시아, 북미, 유럽 등의 대학들과 기획공동주제를 바탕으로 3개년 워크숍이 계획되어 추진된다. 2022년부터 2024년까지는 ‘Shifting Grounds’라는 주제로 기후 위기와 해수면 상승 등으로 발생한 각종 도시 재난과 건축적 대지의 문제를 도시, 건축적 관점으로 조사, 해석하여 특정 도시의 대상지에 건축적 프로토타입을 제시하는 워크숍이 기획, 운영될 예정이다. 2022년에는 싱가포르 SUTD (Singapore University of Technolody and Design)과 공동 기획, 운영되었으며, 2023년에는 미국 시라큐스 대학교 (Syracuse University)와 뉴욕시에서 워크숍을 운영할 계획이다. 이러한 성과들은 학생들의 적극적 기획과 참여를 통해 전시회로 성과가 공유되며, 결과물은 책자로 발간되고 있다. 또한 2022-23년 GWAU는 국토교통부와 국토교통과학기술진흥원의 ‘건축설계 인재육성사업’의 선정 사업으로 지원받고 있다.
ACAU는 매년 하계나 동계방학 중 일정 기간 동안 7개 대학의 건축, 도시, 조경 관련분야 학생들과 교수진이 한 도시에 모여 도시의 구체적인 현안을 놓고 해법을 제시하는 설계스튜디오와 세미나, 현장답사 등을 통하여 아시아권 도시의 공감대 형성과 협력의 장을 넓히는 프로그램으로 운영되어 왔다. ACAU는 아시아 건축도시의 논의를 위한 공동워크숍을 개최하기 위해, 아시아 주요 대학 간에 연합체계를 구축하기 위하여 체결된 MOU를 기초로 한 협약과 신뢰를 바탕으로 운영되어 왔으며, 국립싱가포르대학교, 상해의 동제대학교, 홍콩대학교, 태국의 어셤션대학교, 말레시아의 국립말레이대학교, 대만의 국립성공대학교가 연합에 동참하여 왔다. ACAU는 국제적 다자간, 학제적 교육프로그램으로서 도시특성화 사업 중 가장 성공적인 사업으로 평가받은 프로그램이기도 하다.

The Global Workshop for Architecture and Urbanism has expanded the 'Asian Coalition for Architecture and Urbanism', which has been planned and operated since 2004, to provide consultation, joint planning, and cooperation with partner universities around the world. It will be run as a workshop to investigate current issues in cities and architecture and suggest solutions. GWAU began in 2022, and a three-year workshop is planned and promoted based on a joint theme with universities in Asia, North America, and Europe to expand the global network based on ACAU's successful experience. From 2022 to 2024, under the theme of 'Shifting Grounds', various urban disasters and architectural site problems caused by the climate crisis and sea level rise will be investigated and interpreted from an urban and architectural perspective, and architectural prototypes will be created on target sites in specific cities. A workshop presenting the following will be planned and performed. In 2022, it was jointly planned and operated with Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and in 2023, workshops are planned to be co-worked in New York City and Syracuse University in the United States. These achievements are shared through exhibitions through students' active planning and participation, and the results are published in a booklet.

국제 교환학생 프로그램은 크게 2가지 방식으로 운영되고 있다. 각 대학의 건축학과간 상호협약을 통해 전공 학점 이수가 인정되는 교환학생 프로그램과 서울시립대학교 국제교육원이 주관하는 교환학생 프로그램으로 구분된다. 2017년 현재 서울시립대학교 건축학부 건축학전공은 상호협약을 통해 국립싱가포르대학 및 태국 출랄롱코른대학, 2개 대학의 국제 교환학생 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 국립싱가포르대학 건축학과와 서울시립대학교 건축학전공 간의 학생과 교수진 교환 프로그램으로 각 대학의 학생들이 파견대학에서 수강한 과목을 소속대학의 전공과 교양학점으로 인정해 주게 되는 국제화 교육의 일환이다. 2005년 협약을 맺은 후 매년 서울시립대학교 학생 2명과 국립싱가포르대학 학생 2명이 이 프로그램에 참여하고 있다. 국제협력프로그램을 확장시키려는 노력의 일환으로, 2015년 상호 협약을 통한 건축학전공 교환학생 프로그램에 태국 방콕에 위치한 출랄롱코른대학 교환 프로그램을 추가하였다. 매년 서울시립대학교 학생 2명과 출랄롱코른대학 학생 2명이 이 프로그램에 참여하며, 서울시립대학교 건축학전공에서는 외국에서 방문하는 교환학생들을 위하여 건축설계Iv과목을 포함하여 3~4개의 영어강의를 개설하고 있다.

In 2005, the Heads of the Department of Architecture at the University of Seoul and the Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore agreed to a student and faculty exchange program, hence providing for official recognition of courses taken by exchange students in each other's universities. During the past 4 years, the schools have exchanged two to three fourth-year students per academic year. More recently in 2015, the Department of Architecture expanded the mutual exchange programs to include Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Furthermore, exchange students from China are accepted in the department and it is expected to increase the presence of foreign students from Asia and Europe. To support the exchange students, the Department of Architecture offers three to four courses in English every semester.

짓기 활동을 통한 설계교육의 일환으로 매년 3, 4학년 설계 정규과정을 통해 이루어지는 목구조 Mock-up 작업이다. 대학 캠퍼스 내에 작은 목조정자를 학생들이 직접 설계하고 건설하는 프로젝트로 운영하면서 2004년은 학생작품을 고정된 위치에 설치하여 휴식공간으로 활용하고 있다. 2009년부터 프로그램 이름을 목조정자 짓기에서 1:1로 바꾸어 재료를 국한시키지 않고 실물 크기의 구축물을 직접 시공해 보는 과제로 확대 실시하여 건축에서 구축이 가지는 의미를 교육하고 있다. 2010년에는 영암에서 기증 받은 한옥 자재를 이용하여 캠퍼스 내에 한옥을 짓고 해체하는 과정을 실습하였다. 2012년에는 교내 국제학사 필로티 공간을 휴게공간으로 바꾸는 과정을 실습하였다. 또한 건축학부 1학년 재학생을 대상으로 실제 건축물의 조립과 시공에 이르는 일체의 과정을 체험하는 프로그램을 진행하였다.

Every year, third and/or fourth year design studios participate in the design and construction of a small project in actual scale of 1:1. The studio tutors and visiting jury then select the best design and the students collaborate on the actual construction of the winning scheme from beginning to end. The collaborative work includes cost estimation, purchase of building material, and on-site construction. It is a rare academic opportunity for students to become familiar with the qualities of the material and construction methods, engage in hands-on building experience, and learn the values of collaborative work. Until 2003, the structures were built as temporary wooden pavilions on vacant spaces(such as parking lots) and were demolished after the exhibition period. Since 2004, the university has allowed the pavilions to be semi-permanent structures, serving as an open outdoor rest-space for the campus. Some of these pavilion projects were awarded at the annual National Exhibition of Korean Wood Architecture. In 2009, the project ventured outside the campus into designing and building a public restroom in Namsan park. In 2010, a Hanok, the traditional timber-structure house, which was dissembled at Youngam province, brought and reassembled at the university's campus by students. In 2012, students worked on a piloti space in the international house on campus, which were turned into dynamic lounge area that is well used now. In addition, first year students went through a program that showed entire process of a building construction.

이전의 단기설계 프로그램을 재정비한 프로그램으로 매해 건축학부 전 학년 학생들을 대상으로 짧은 시간 내에 주어진 디자인 문제를 풀어내는 건축적 설계 순발력을 키울 수 있는 프로그램이다. 학생들이 팀을 결성하여 디자인 과제가 발표된 이후 24시간 이내에 구상과 설계를 마치고 작은 판넬과 모델을 제출하는 공모전으로 1995년 삼풍추모공원을 시작으로 종이의자, 빛상자, 재활용 수납공간, 사간동 읽기, 나무의자, 스파게티지붕, 비만인을 위한 패션쇼, 옥상쉼터, 건설공학관 개구부, Mr+Mrs. coffee, 재활용품을 이용한 새집 등 다양한 주제가 주어졌다.

The Department of Architecture hosts the annual 24Hours. Supported by the Department's Alumni Association, this festive event is a short-term design competition, open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Since 1995, full-time faculty have taken turns in devising a new program that students must solve usually in less than 24 hours. In contrast to the studio sessions within the curriculum, where students are trained to work in a accumulative manner, the 24Hours is designed to induce the students's maximum creativity through intensive work in a limited period of time. The pedagogical aim is to develop the students's ability to focus on specific design problems, to deal with various media, to work together, to have hands-on experience with different materials, to engage in the specific time and space of their surroundings, and to build confidence in their ideas. The 24Hours promotes collaboration between upper and lower-year students as well as between architecture and architectural engineering students, who are encouraged to form teams of mixed group when participating in the competition. Themes have ranged from paper chairs, light boxes, and spaghetti trusses to overweight/skinny clothes, recycled walls, and re-defining the window.

2002년 도시문화연구소에 의해 처음 시작된 커뮤니티 집짓기 프로그램은 지방의 낙후된 지역의 주택을 개선하고 신축하는 일련의 프로젝트이다. 한때 탄광촌으로 부행했지만, 석탄업의 몰락과 함께 쇠퇴한 마을의 회복을 돕는 것이 목표이다. 이 프로그램을 주도적으로 이끌고 있는 이들은 서울시립대학교 건축학과의 동문들이며, 첫해를 비롯해 초창기 몇 해 동안 참여한 자원봉사자 대다수가 서울시립대학교 건축학과 학생들이었다. 그들은 손수 집을 지어보는 경험을 했으며, 공동체 내에서 함께 일하는 것의 가치를 경험했다. 양구 집짓기를 시작으로 커뮤니티 집짓기 프로그램은 학과의 공식 커리큘럼으로 자리잡아 가고 있다. 여름 방학 동안 집짓기에 참여한 학생들은 학점을 받는다. 학생들에게는 건축의 가장 큰 사회적챔임, 공동체 내에서 현장에서 배우고 일하고 생각하는 경험을 하는 값진 기회이다.

The Community Building Program, first begun in 2002, is a series of projects to build and renovate houses in small underprivileged towns in the provinces of Korea. It has aided the recuperation process of towns such as Cholam and Injae in the Taebaek region, once active mining towns that have deteriorated since the collapse of the coal industry. Many of the leaders of the program are alumni of the Department of Architecture and during the first years of the program, a significant number of students from the department constituted the majority of the volunteer workers. They were able to experience hands-on work and learn the true value of collaborative work within the community. Students enrolled in Internship and Special Programs may receive credit for their participation in the program during the summer. It is a valuable opportunity for students to experience first-hand the social role of architecture; that is to learn, work, and think on site and within the community.

취업이나 프로젝트에 핵심적인 포트폴리오를 공모하여 선정함으로써 아이디어와 모형 제작 과정을 도면, 이미지, 사진 등을 이용하여 효과적으로 전달하는 능력을 향상시키고 나아가 학생들의 경쟁력을 높이고자하는 지원 프로그램이다.

The Architecture Department organizes annual portfolio competition to promote the students’ mastery of presentation skills for their idea, design, and model development. This is an opportunity for students to further develop their portfolio for their achievement and career.

여름방학과 겨울방학 동안 학부와 대학원생 모두가 참여하는 국내외 건축답사여행이다. 국내 답사여행에서는 전통 건축의 문화, 역사, 지역적 특성에 초점을 맞추어 진행하며 지역의 연구소나 대학과 연계하기도 한다. 2005년, 2006년에는 한반도의 남도 끝의 전통건축과 중국의 베이징과 상하이, 베트남의 하노이와 후에의 지역적 삶과 풍부한 유산을 체험했으며, 2007년 강원도 속초․원주․강릉 일대, 2008년 안동․영주 일대, 2009년 전라도 순천․남원 일대, 2010년 인천․강화도 일대, 2011년 광주비엔날레와 안동 하회마을 및 경주 일대, 2012년 경기도 파주 일대, 2013년 광주 국립아시아문화전당, 2016년 공주 부여 일대를 답사하였다. 건축답사를 통해 얻은 사진, 도면, 지도 및 다양한 데이터들은 연구와 교육을 위해 베세토-아시아 아카이브에 보관된다.

디지털 잼은 디지털미디어를 탐구하고 학습하는 특별 활동의 총칭으로 빠르게 변화하는 디지털 기술과 기법을 학업에 자율적으로 활용하는 능력을 배양하고 급변하는 디지털 기술을 주도적으로 활용할 수 있는 인재를 양성하기 위해 2009년 2학기 이후부터 정기워크숍, 초청강연, 강습회, 멘토링, 디지털 학습리소스 구축, 학생자치활동 등 다양한 형태로 진행되어왔다. 그동안 학생중심형 워크샵의 형태로 'In Sync', ‘BIM.edu, The Trilogy’를 진행하여 건축학전공 학생들과 타전공 학생들이 함께 배울 수 있는 협력적 학습법에 대한 실험을 진행했다. 그 외에‘Adobe After Effect 실습’, V-ray 실습’, ‘Smart work : Coworking’, ‘렌더링 후 포토샵 보정’, ‘Web Audio Tutorial’, ‘Lets 참여형 워크숍’, ‘HTML5 활용법’, ‘Chrome에서 웹코딩하기’ 등의 다양한 주제로 강습강연 및 초청강연을 개최하였다. 또한, 학생들간 자율적 강습시리즈인 디지털 샐러드 강습 시리즈를 통해 디지털 툴을 활용하기 위한 실용적인 지식을 나누고 있다.

Digital Jam is the name of diverse activities that explores and examines digital media among members of our program. It includes workshops, lecture series, and mentoring program and establishment of information systems such as wiki. By introducing new digital techniques and facilities to students and faculties, it has been offering flexible opportunities to adapt emerging technologies in curriculums. The majority of activities are funded by the university. Currently, various initiations bring new topics of study, and promote mutual learning among students.

봄/가을 정기 강연은 건축, 도시계획, 조경, 미술, 인문학 분야의 명사를 초청해 정기 강연 혹은 세미나 형식으로 이루어진다. 학생들은 다양한 강연과 세미나에 자발적으로 참여할 수 있다.

The Spring/Fall Lecture Series invites distinguished speakers architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, art and the humanities for lectures and seminars. Students are encouraged to participate and work as volunteers in various symposiums and seminars hosted by organizations affiliated with the University.
