기존 건물을 평가하여 물리적, 구조적 재구축과 새로운 기능과 용도의 제안을 통해 변화하는 사회에 대한 적응적 건축계획 방안을 제시한다. 지속가능한 건축을 위한 환경적 효과를 달성할 수 있는 다양한 전략과 기술을 도입하여 재료와 파사드 디자인을 다룬다. 그리고 노후화된 건물의 안전과 성능을 확보하기 위한 법적 규제를 이해하고 이를 위한 설계, 계획적 요소들을 고려한다.

The topics of the studio are sustainability and urban renovation. Students shall apply the knowledge acquired in lecture course “Sustainable Architecture” emphasizing the meaning of ‘public’. It explores the theory of sustainable architecture and its application in design works such as site planning, energy-conscious design, building envelope and facade, environment-friendly material and construction, and others related to sustainability. In the context of urban setting, students deal with diverse environmental issues and basic principles of renovation, verifying building performances through digital simulations at the level of both the individual building and its immediate surroundings in the block scale.
